Shadow drops his bangs, his eye once again hidden, save for the red glow.
That's odd, he thinks. I can't read him at all. Either he's able to subvert the Eye, or he's convinced he's being honest with his way of thinking. My gut says he's lying, but my eye can't find anything to suggest he is. It also can't see if he's telling the truth.

He sees a possible reaction.
"And before you start, don't tell me you're being honest and that he's the liar," he says. "That won't help you, and will lead my gut to think you're the liar. Only a liar accuses someone else."
